The medical definition of infertility is the inability to conceive a child after twelve months of consistent, unprotected intercourse. After this time frame has passed, your practitioner may request tests such as bloodwork in order to measure ovulation cycles. Women are most fertile between the ages of 20-24 and female fertility begins to decline at age 30. The fertility of men’s sperm begins to decline at age 25 when quality and quantity of sperm should also be considered. Men are more likely and able to produce sperm well into their elderly years, but the lowering of testosterone levels and other factors can further reduce sperm count.
It’s important to speak with your TCM practitioner /acupuncturist if fertility concerns arise.
